Accessioning Training Lead

Responsibilities

  • Works under the direct supervision of an employee or supervisor who has been trained and is competent in all the accessioning procedures and processes.
  • Prepares and processes specimens for testing.
  • Uses an accessioning application to assign specimens an internal tracking number.
  • Compares the patients name and other identifiers on the test request form and verifies that the information on the specimen matches.
  • Ensures specimens are appropriately labeled.
  • Communicates any important information pertaining to testing.
  • Looks for and documents problems with specimens.Scans paperwork submitted with specimens.
  • Occasionally participates in the processing of proficiency testing.
  • Complies with and maintains competency for all laboratory policies and procedures associated to accessioning.
  • Observes all compliance and regulatory requirements especially those associated to data security and patient confidentiality.
  • Actively participates in and maintains accepted laboratory standards for continuing education.
  • Maintains ethical standards in the performance of testing and in interactions with co-workers and other staff.
  • Works with team members to resolve department problems and helps to develop/implement improvement projects.

Qualifications

  • Required Education/Credentials
  • Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Chemical, Physical, or
  • Biological Science or equivalent and 1 year of clinical lab experience; or
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years of clinical laboratory experience.
  • Able to multitask.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Preferred Experience/Skills
  • Experience in specimen processing.
  • Experience in data entry.

Physical & Lifting Requirements

  • Lifting Requirements - medium work or exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pound of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force consistently.
  • Physical Requirements - stationary positioning, moving, operating, ascending/descending, communicating, observing, reaching and repetitive motion.
  • Use of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential job functions.
  • Hazards and Atmospheric Conditions - exposure to fumes, dust, extreme temperatures, wet and/or humid, noise, vibration, mists or gases, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards and radiant energy hazards. OSHA Category I - duties performed routinely requires exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
