Program Assistant, International Development

Overview

AIR is currently seeking a Program Assistant to join our International Development Division (IDD).  AIR’s IDD strives to improve the quality of life in developing countries by using rigorous research and evaluation to enhance education and social development. We work across a wide range of topics including workforce development, agriculture/food/nutrition, early childhood development, education, refugees and migration, social protection, water/sanitation/infrastructure, and women's empowerment in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Central and Latin America as well as the Middle East. The IDD generates policy-relevant evidence through rigorous monitoring, evaluations, and research; helps improve program design through continuous learning and adaptation; and works with local organizations and governments to build sustainable solutions based on evidence. 
 
This position might initially start working remotely but will eventually have the option to work from one of our offices located in Arlington, VA; Rockville, MD; Austin, TX; Chicago, IL; Chapel Hill, NC or Waltham, MA or continue to work remotely.

Responsibilities

AIR is seeking a Program Assistant with outstanding administrative, organizational, interpersonal and analytic skills to provide administrative and technical support to the International Labor portfolio in the International Development Division.
 
The responsibilities for the position include:
  • Scheduling meetings, notetaking, making meeting/travel arrangements, preparing and tracking consultant payments and other invoices, maintaining schedules, occasional proofreading and editing and other administrative duties for projects in the International Labor portfolio
  • Assist in preparing background materials (calendars, outlines, templates, checklists) for planning and project meetings
  • Assist in developing and managing project timelines
  • Provide support such as doing basic financial analyses, preparing reports, and interacting with clients, such as scheduling meetings with them
  • Support research activities such as literature reviews, generating list of references, and formatting tables and figures
  • Provide translation support in the meetings and for deliverables production
  • Coordinate proposal and project work to help ensure document completion and adherence to deadlines
  • Assist with business development efforts and other duties as assigned, including gathering information for business intelligence related to the international development division
  • Opportunity to work on a large, growing portfolio of work in LAC with senior experts in the labor rights and institution building fields


Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in social science, international development or a related field
  • Experience living, studying, working outside the United States preferred
Skills:
  • Fluency or professional working proficiency in Spanish required
  • Strong conceptualization and writing skills with acute attention to details
  • Ability to be a self-starter and to complete tasks with reasonable direction
  • Ability to work well with a team of senior professionals and peers
  • Strong web-based and library research skills, with the ability to find and synthesize complex information into well-organized reports
  • Familiarity with basic office business software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • A cheerful, enthusiastic, can-do personality will be a great plus in this role
  • Interest and any previous experience working on topics related to labor rights and/or institution building would be a plus for this role
