Quantitative Researcher, International Development

Overview

AIR is seeking a Quantitative Researcher to join our International Development Division (IDD). The position offers an opportunity to gain first-hand research experience on exciting evaluations of development programs.
 
AIR’s IDD strives to improve the quality of life in developing countries by using rigorous research and evaluation to enhance education and social development. We work across a wide range of topics including workforce development, agriculture/food/nutrition, early childhood development, education, refugees and migration, social protection, water/sanitation/infrastructure, and women's empowerment in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Central and Latin America as well as the Middle East. The IDD generates policy-relevant evidence through rigorous monitoring, evaluations, and research; helps improve program design through continuous learning and adaptation; and works with local organizations and governments to build sustainable solutions based on evidence. 


Responsibilities

This Quantitative Researcher will lead, co-lead, support, and contribute to the success of our educational development activities, with responsibilities and qualifications listed below.
  • Communicate with donors and partners, respond to client needs, and produce timely deliverables
  • Participate in business development by identifying/tracking bids and writing/reviewing proposals
  • Conduct background reviews of relevant literature, articles, research, policies, guides, and reports
  • Prepare scopes of work and activity work plans, organize staffing, and ensure quality control
  • Develop and implement experimental and quasi-experimental evaluation and research designs
  • Collaborate with senior psychometricians to develop and implement student assessment designs
  • Prepare and implement assessment and survey instruments and training guides for data collection
  • Design probability samples, execute sample selections, and calculate sampling weights
  • Lead and supervise the processing, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of quantitative data
  • Write succinct and high-quality technical reports using text, tables, graphs, and data visualization
  • Provide capacity building on design, sampling, data collection, analysis, reporting, and data use


Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
  • Master's degree in education, international development, public policy, statistics, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience on international primary, secondary, and higher education projects
Skills:
  • Proven track record with international donors, including USAID, UN agencies, and foundations
  • Successful experience with randomized control trials and quasi-experimental evaluation designs
  • Background in educational assessment, particularly with large-scale assessment in basic education
  • Extensive experience with M&E plans, systems, indicator development, and results frameworks
  • High-level skills with statistical software programs such as Stata or SPSS to clean and analyze data
  • Ability to work productively as a team member and independently on multiple, detailed assignments
  • Excellent reading, writing, and speaking ability in English, with fluency in other languages preferred
