Intern - IT GIS (Richmond)

Job Summary

Dominion Energy, one of the nation’s largest producers of energy, is seeking a detailed oriented, highly motivated and innovative rising junior for a 2022 summer internship. Working with IT professionals you will enhance your education while learning and assisting with IT GIS projects.
This internship is specifically designed for a student with an anticipated graduation date of May 2023 or May 2024. The IT GIS team is looking for interns who are excited to hone their skills building innovative solutions that make our customers’ lives easier and operations efficient & reliable. Our interns are full members of the team; they participate in project meetings, present results to company stakeholders, and produce as much as they learn. At the end of your internship, you'll walk away with a great understanding of how a tight-knit, fast-paced team turns ideas into customer-facing products.
If you would like to gain valuable work experience and exposure to enterprise systems in a corporate environment, then consider spending your summer at Dominion Energy. An intern housing stipend may be available (conditions apply).
As an intern, you will work at our 600 Canal Place. facility, located in historical downtown Richmond, Virginia where the company is headquartered. During your internship you will interact with the IT GIS team to:
  • Software Engineers, Systems Analysts, Business Analysts and the Architect of the team, there will also be opportunities to interact with our Business clients
  • Take ownership over transforming your ideas into reality – you'll prototype new solutions, write high-quality, professional code, and be responsible for documenting your work and results.
  • Be a member of the team by participating in team planning meetings, standups, and code reviews.


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Must currently be enrolled in a accredited college or university degreed program in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related course of study with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Students should have an anticipated graduation date between May 2023 and May 2024. (Sophomores with skills in GIS, Esri, Smallworld and programming languages)
  • Programming experience in Python or .net
  • Solid understanding of the fundamentals of GIS, programming, spatial data is a plus.
  • Experience outside of the classroom, like previous industry work, open-source contributions, or personal side projects;
  • Proficiency in basic computer software (Microsoft Office Suite required).


Education Requirements

  • Must currently be enrolled in a accredited college or university degreed program in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related course of study
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Students should have an anticipated graduation date between May 2023 and May 2024. (Preferred: Sophomores with skills in GIS, Esri, Smallworld and programming languages)
