Job Title: Geotech Engineer
Location: Grand Junction, CO, Westminster, CO (other work locations in the US will be considered for Remote Telework assignment)
Hiring Range: $100K - $127,000 Annually (Depending on education, experience)
Status: Full Time

Job Description:
RSI EnTech, LLC is recruiting for an experienced Project Geotechnical Engineer whose primary responsibilities will be to support RSI’s Department of Energy, Office of Legacy Management (LM) Support contract in Grand Junction, Colorado. This project geotechnical engineer will work on projects associated with engineering evaluations and maintenance of uranium mine tailings disposal cells previously closed under UMTRCA.

This position is required to travel 10 – 25% of the time.

Primary responsibilities and essential functions:
·        Projects will include completing geotechnical and civil analysis and design work for structures and earthworks including settlement, transient drainage in tailings, slope stability, seepage, erosion, earth retention, and mine tailings dams.
·        Responsibilities include performing geotechnical computer modeling; specifying and interpreting soil and rock investigations, including drilling and cone penetrometer testing; supervising in-situ and laboratory materials testing and installation of instrumentation for geotechnical assessment.
·        Construction project work also involves completion of geotechnical and civil engineering aspects of alternatives analyses, feasibility studies, forensic evaluations, and preparation of design plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
·        Technical evaluation work will focus on disposal cell cover performance evaluation, engineering design and construction quality assurance associated with radon barriers, rock riprap covers, and evapotranspiration (ET) covers.
 
Work experience required:
  • Minimum 12 years industry experience in geotechnical engineering.
  • Education or work experience with geotechnical analysis and geotechnical computer modeling or other related software.
  • Education or experience with geotechnical research of surface and subsurface hydrology including evaluations of internal erosion, backwards erosion, suffusion, and dispersion.
  • Track record of work in cross-disciplinary teams from technical backgrounds including engineering, earth and planetary science, ecology, hydrology, and geochemistry.
  • Experience with UMTRCA disposal cell covers and regulations is preferred.
 
Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses and software proficiencies required:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is preferred.
  •  Microsoft Office suite.
  • Geotechnical Computer Monitoring or other related software.
  • Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
 
Education required:
  • Master's Degree (MS) in Geotechnical/Civil/Geological Engineering from an ABET accredited university (preferred), with additional coursework or research related to mine tailings and tailings storage facilities, dam engineering, seepage, and slope stability, and/or advanced soil mechanics.
  • Experience in lieu of education will be considered.
 
Working Conditions and Physical/Mental Demands Requirements:
  • Ability to walk in rough terrain.
  • Standing and/or walking for up to 8 hrs./day.
  • Stooping and kneeling to complete field work.
  • Lifting and carrying equipment.
  • Reaching chest high and overhead for supplies.
  • Must be able to access a wide variety of field sites.
  • Works with computer, printer, keyboard, telephone, calculator, and miscellaneous field equipment.
  • Works on varying surfaces including sloping, uneven, and slippery surfaces.
  • Requires finger dexterity, good color vision, good hearing, and clear speaking ability.
  • May work with eye protection, hearing protection, hard hat, gloves, boots, and body protection as the situation requires.
 
Working Category
The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 
Able to travel on uneven ground for several miles (2-4 miles) per day under adverse weather conditions. Much of the traveling is up and down hills. Able to work in hot, cold, windy, and sometimes wet conditions. Able to work alone for several hours per day in the field.
