POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant II
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
The research group of Peter Schultz is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant with experience in cell and molecular biology to join a collaborative and interdisciplinary team of scientists focused on small molecule discovery and early-stage translational research. Individuals with cell biological experience with hematological cancers will be preferred. The applicant will provide effective scientific assistance with: rodent handling; drug dosing; mammalian cell culture; drug discovery; mechanism of action studies; gene expression profiling; DNA purification or cloning; protein purification and characterization; enzymology; and HTS. Will also be responsible for accurate scientific research, documentation of results, and the evaluation/analysis of data and perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Work under minimal supervision. Independently conducts a wide variety of standard laboratory techniques/procedures while using judgement when necessary to adapt standard methods and techniques. Receive instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions. 
  • Provide interpretation and analyses of results. Troubleshoot and modify procedures. 
  • May assist in designing experiments to complete a segment of overall research plan. May provide routine equipment maintenance. May provide guidance/training to department personnel.
REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been attained.
  • Requires 3-5 years of experience.
  • Candidates possessing a master’s degree, 2+ years’ experience required.
  • Must be able to follow detailed instructions in the performance of experiments.
  • Must be able to interpret results.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture techniques absolutely required.
  • Experience with Western blot analysis and qRT PCR analysis required.
PREFERRED SKILLSET:

  • Experience in hematological oncological research
  • Rodent handling experience.
  • Lentivirus production experience.
  • Cell and biochemical assay development and miniaturization experience.
  • Basic understanding of organic chemistry, microscopy, and flow cytometry.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

  • This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment.

COMPENSATION:   Salary is commensurate with experience.
