Communications Strategist for Midwest Office & Tribal Partnerships Program

Earthjustice is the premier nonprofit environmental law organization. We take on the biggest, most precedent-setting cases across the country. We wield the power of law and the strength of partnership to protect people’s health; to preserve magnificent places and wildlife; to advance clean energy; and to combat climate change. We partner with thousands of groups, supporters, individuals and communities to engage the critical environmental issues of our time, and bring about positive change. We are guided by a passionate, ambitious vision for the future for people and our planet: until justice stands for all, we will never rest. We are here because the earth needs a good lawyer.

Founded in 1971, Earthjustice has a distinguished track record of achieving significant, lasting environmental protections. We achieve this by hiring people who share a passion for justice and a healthy environment. Our headquarters are in San Francisco with offices in Anchorage, Juneau, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Chicago, Tallahassee, Honolulu, New York, Philadelphia, Denver, Seattle, Bozeman, Miami and Washington, DC.

In addition to a talented cadre of environmental lawyers and legislative advocates, Earthjustice has an amazing communications department that works in partnership with every other department at the organization. The team is looking for a Communications Strategist dedicated to supporting our Midwest Regional Office and Tribal Partnerships Program. The Communications Strategist works closely with the attorneys and policy staff to develop and implement strategic communications —including issue management, government relations, dynamic storytelling, media, and public outreach and engagement—to support priority litigation and legislative advocacy in our docket and to help build Earthjustice’s profile.

About the Midwest Regional Office

The Midwest Regional Office partners with tribal nations and frontline communities to fight for clean air, drinking water, and soil; we fight to protect the region’s treasures, including the Great Lakes and the pristine Boundary Waters, and every creature that depends on these places; and we work to transform the way our food is grown and power is generated to combat climate change and provide for a more sustainable future. We are committed to working with communities across the Midwest with special attention to Detroit and Flint, Chicagoland including Northwest Indiana, and St. Louis. We are currently fighting an oil pipeline in the Great Lakes on behalf of a tribal nation, trying to stop a new asphalt plant that will pollute the air in Flint, Michigan, and a Black community in the St. Louis area faced with failing drinking water, stormwater, and sewage infrastructure.

About Tribal Partnerships

Earthjustice's Tribal Partnerships Program fights to ensure our tribal and Indigenous clients’ natural and cultural resources are protected for future generations and to elevate Indigenous voices on the frontlines of environmental degradation. Earthjustice is honored to partner with some of the 574 federally recognized Indian and Alaska Native tribes, Native Hawaiians, state-recognized tribes, Indigenous NGOs, and unrecognized tribes as they fight to protect their air, earth, water, and way of life.
