The UX/UI Designer supports the design, production, and extension of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center’s brand as part of the UX, Design & Development team within the Communications & Marketing department. In this role, your responsibilities will include designing materials for both print and digital media, project/product management, partner with Principal & Sr UX designers in producing assets based on their creative direction, and support efforts across internal and external communication channels through strategic visual solutions. 

Our UX Design team is focused on how to extend the Fred Hutch brand to drive measurable engagement across audiences (patients, donors, scientific peers, and business partners) in support of our mission to cure, prevent and treat cancer and other devastating diseases. You will build collaborative relationships with faculty and staff, designers, producers, developers, analysts, and writers to continuously develop better online tools and experiences. 



Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: 
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the organization and within the Communications & Marketing team to create a wide range of design- and user-centered projects that are beautifully conceived and strategically aligned from initial concept to final deliverable
  • Collaborate with digital producers, multimedia editors, web developers and content strategists in the team to create new interactive features and functionality for our internal and external websites
  • Apply (and evolve) design thinking across print projects, digital campaigns, video/multimedia, and websites by employing classic design principles (color, typography, packaging, photo editing, conceptual illustration), best practices in UX/UI, audience engagement and brand expression
  • Turn complex information into simple, delightful, engaging experiences, whether informational graphics (maps, charts, diagrams), data visualizations, conceptual illustrations, and/or PowerPoint presentations
  • Provide quality control on all elements of print and digital production
  • Develop and cultivate collaborative relationships across campus



Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience working on design team or in an agency setting
  • Skillset that bridges design and technical expertise with a high proficiency in: Adobe Creative Suite applications, Sketch, Zeplin, Microsoft 365 product suite
  • Online portfolio of work that demonstrates design excellence in print and digital
  • Demonstrated experience as an effective self-starter, creative problem solver
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other designers, producers, developers, and campus stakeholders
  • Ability to juggle and complete competing projects and deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Team player and adaptable to changing needs and priorities 

Preferred qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or Masters degree in Fine Arts, User Experience Design, or Graphic Design
  • Experience with CSS, HTML, Agile methodologies, and Project management software like Asana
  • Fluent in responsive design and accessibility standards
  • Experience with Design System management
  • Illustration and Motion design a plus
  • Ability to take direction and give design direction to meet creative and organizational objectives
  • Deadline-driven with a track record of completing and delivering quality products
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Naturally curious, loves learning new technologies
