Quantum Materials Postdoctoral Research Associate

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
As a postdoc Research Associate, you will have these roles and responsibilities: 
  • You will conduct electron microscopy studies of quantum materials and devices to understand structure-property relationships.

  • You will contribute to material/device fabrication to improve material properties, by identifying defects as source of decoherence.

  • You willparticipate on intra-team and inter-team collaboration in correlating materials analysis with quantum device performance.
Position Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
You are qualified for this role if:
  • You earned a Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics, Materials Science, or closely related fields*
  • You have a solid background in electron microscopy and structural characterization.

  • You have the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional team environment

  • You have good scientific writing and oral presentation abilities, and publication experience

  • You are committed to fostering an environment of safe scientific work practices
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
You are well-matched to this position if: 
  • You have extensive hands-on experience in advanced electron microscopy, such as electron diffraction, atomic imaging, in-situ microscopy, electron energy-loss-spectroscopy and the use of cryogenic electron microscopy and aberration corrected electron microscopy

  • You work effectively in a collaborative team to tackle challenging scientific problems, particularly quantum information science

  • You have experience with superconducting materials studies
Other Information:
  • *BNL policy requires that after obtaining their PhD, eligible candidates for research associate appointments may not exceed a combined total of 5 years of relevant work experience as a post-doc and/or in an R&D position, excluding time associated with family planning, military service, illness or other life-changing events
  • Two year initial appointment
