Departmental Work Control Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the implementation of Work Planning and Control in the Department to meet the requirements of the Work Planning and Control for Experiments and Operations Subject Area as well as represent C-AD in work planning activities and meetings.
  • Ensure consistency between C-AD WP&C program and laboratory requirements and establish periodic monitoring of the work control system performance and appoint Work Control Coordinators (WCC). 
  • Serve as a member of Work Permit Walk Down and Review Teams. Ensure that appropriate work permit close out activities are performed, this includes reviewing work permits for completeness.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, periodic review and/or evaluation of the Department’s occupational safety and health management system and review and revision of CA-D procedures.
  • Coordinate and participate in the implementation of the Department’s Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) inspection program.
  • Participate in safety reviews on the Accelerator Safety System Review Committee and the Experimental Safety Review Committee
  • Coordinate Emergency Planning activities in the Department.
  • Participating on causal analysis teams, included event investigation, personnel interviews, analyzing the root causes, and reporting to C-AD management.
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, accelerator physics, or related field of study.
  • A minimum of 7 years’ progressively responsible full-time relevant experience in a technical field.
  • Computing proficiency to include Microsoft Office Suite, with proficiency in use of Microsoft Word and spreadsheet development.
  • Core skills include planning, organizational, time management, and workload prioritization.
  • Ability to gather information, work in a team, and use resourcefulness to resolve problems.
  • Ability to work independently, learn new systems, make informed decisions, and regularly exercise a high degree of discretion and judgment.
  • Experience successfully managing highly complex program or project activities.
  • Proven record of working with individuals of diverse technical and managerial responsibilities.
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with all department personnel.
  • Technically proficient in the areas of industrial safety and hazard identification and analysis.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of accelerator systems and machine maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge and experience working within the DOE complex.
  • Certification in a relevant ESH field (CSP, CIH, PE, LSO).
Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements:
  • The ability to perform field work within the C-AD complex, this requires the ability to walk distances in excess of ½ mile, climb vertical ladders, work in areas of ionizing radiation, magnetic fields in excess of 5 gauss, and noise areas.
