Postdoctoral Research Associate - High Temperature Experiments

Overview: 
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security.
 
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will support the Nuclear and Extreme Environment Measurements Group in the Nuclear Energy and Fuel Cycle Division (NEFCD), Fusion and Fission Energy and Science Directorate (FFESD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  
 
Major Duties/Responsibilities: 
  • Design, execute, and analyze high temperature in-core and ex-core experiments
  • Develop and demonstrate novel methods for experiment data collection and analysis
  • Assist in program, project, and task development with multiple collaborators and customers
 
Basic Qualifications:
  • A PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field completed within the last 5 years
  • Experience in multiphysics heat transfer modeling
  • Experience in experimental data analysis
 
This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in high temperature experiment design and execution
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory 
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
