And it inspires us to be the safest and best place for cancer care – to bring greater hope to every patient we serve. It’s why we’ve been continually named One of the Top Places to Work in the Tampa Bay Area. As the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center based in Florida, Moffitt employs some of the best and brightest minds from around the world. Moffitt is the leading cancer hospital in both Florida and the Southeast and has been nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report since 1999. Because working at Moffitt is both a career and a mission: to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer. Join a dedicated, diverse and inclusive team of over 7,000 to be a part of the Courageous future we envision.

Summary
The Premi-lab is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to investigate paradoxical roles of melanin in melanoma pathogenesis. The project focuses on establishing a positive correlation between melanin-biochemistry and molecular signaling in melanoma initiation, progression, and therapeutic resistance. Three major aspects of this project are: 1) Investigating nitric-oxide mediated regulation of signaling, gene expressions, and DNA damage. 2) Investigating a feedback loop between melanin-synthesis, nitric oxide production, and nitric oxide mediated degradation of melanin. 3) Identifying novel modulators of melanin-chemiexcitation pathway to be used as therapeutic agents in combinational therapy against melanoma. Goal of the project is to identify novel druggable targets for either new antimelanoma drugs or to enhance the efficacy of pre-existing antimelanoma strategies.
The lab page is still under construction.

Position Highlights:
  • Unique opportunity to investigate novel and unconventional, but highly relevant and scientifically interesting aspects of skin cancers.
  • Since the lab is still relatively new, the postdoctoral fellow will have an opportunity to work closely with PI in developing several new projects.
  • You will be encouraged and supported to apply for training grants.
  • Moffitt integrates excellent patient care with cutting-edge clinical and basic research. Having a cancer hospital on-site provides unique opportunities for translational research.

The Ideal Candidate:
  • Looking for a candidate with maximum 1-2 years of postdoctoral experience.
  • Hands-on training in basic molecular and cellular biology methods which should include protein and DNA manipulation, experimental design and execution, and data interpretation and analyses. Some of the basic techniques that are absolutely required are: Western blotting, Immunohistochemistry, ELISA for DNA and proteins, primer design, PCR, RT-PCR, confocal microscopy.
  • Hands-on training in mouse handling and in-vivo experiments including xenografting.
  • Candidate should be well versed with data analyses. This includes but not limited to analyses of fluorescent and brightfield microscopy images using ImageJ, and basic statistics and data analyses on GraphPad Prism.
  • Basic knowledge and training in bioinformatic analyses of large data sets like RNAseq and global-phosphoproteomics is a big plus.
  • Preliminary knowledge of melanin-biochemistry and photochemistry is preferred but not a requirement.

Responsibilities:
  • Literature survey, hypothesis design, independent experimental design.
  • Lab management which includes lab-purchases and record-keeping.
  • Willingness to talk to and possibly train the junior members of the lab in various laboratory methods.

Credentials and Qualifications:
  • Recent Ph.D. graduate with a strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology.

Interested applicants should send a single PDF file that includes a personal statement of scientific interests and goals, a current CV, one or two full-length recent publications, and contact information for three references to Dr. Sanjay Premi at sanjay.premi@moffitt.org.
