Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’s Meetings & Courses Program organizes over thirty scientific conferences and short courses each calendar year in all areas of biology attracting over 12,000 scientists from all over the world to learn the latest technologies and share advances in biological research. The program is seeking candidates for a summer/seasonal IT Course Aide position. 

The IT Course Aide will assist and report to the IT Services Manager in providing support for various seasonal meetings and courses, and will learn and perform various tasks primarily involving:

• computer hardware setup and maintenance
 • scientific software installation tier 1 level support
 • management of equipment inventory
 • and computer/printer/network troubleshooting or repair



Position RequirementsEducation: College student majoring in the Information Technology field.

Availability: Work a full-time (40 hours/week) from mid-May until mid-August. Occasional weekend work may be necessary for this position as well as the need for this person being able to work on the 4th of July.

Experience: Prior experience working in a laboratory environment.

Other requirements: 

• Candidate must have proficiency with both Windows and Mac OS X environments, including basic terminal commands, storage/file protocols, and OS/ Hardware troubleshooting techniques.
 • A+ certification a plus, but not required
 • Able to lift/carry/maneuver reasonably heavy computer equipment [~50-75lbs]
 • Excellent technical communication, organization and time management skills with attention to detail
 • Must be able to learn/act quickly under fast-paced setting within a team and independently
