HMRI Summer 2022 Teaching Assistant

Current undergraduate, aspiring scientists will work alongside a science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) instructor/teacher and serve as teaching assistants for high school students enrolled in HMRI’s summer High School STEM program. The undergraduate students will also serve as mentors and help the high school students gain insight into research methods and laboratory techniques.  

Summer Weekly Overview 
  • Week 1: June 20th - June 24th - Research Methods and Instrumentation 
  • Week 2: June 27th - July 1st - Anatomy (Brain, Heart, Lungs) 
  • Week 3: July 5th - July 8th (4 day week) - Pathology & Radiology 
  • Week 4: July 11th - July 15th - Genetics 
  • Week 5: July 18th - July 22nd - Environmental Science 
  • Week 6: July 25th - July 29th - Research Projects and Symposiums 

We maintain a variety of scientific disciplines at HMRI, some of which include research on Alzheimer’s Disease, Migraine, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Cardiovascular laboratory-based research. 

Requirements: 
  1. Applicants MUST be current undergraduate students enrolled in an academic program or prospective Fall 2022 first-year graduate students (i.e. enrolled/accepted in a post-bacc, MS, PhD, etc.). 
  2. Applicants MUST be over 18 years of age. 
  3. If selected for the teaching assistant position, teaching assistants are required to be at HMRI Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm in Pasadena, CA from June 20-July 29, 2022. Two class sessions, morning session (9am-12pm) and afternoon session (1pm-4pm) 

Teaching Assistants will also have the opportunity to participate in focused scientific discussions (professional and academic seminars) that will allow them to better understand the scientific process.
