Product Support Specialist - Laboratory Products (Chromatography)

The Product Support specialist is responsible for the day-to-day management of Hamilton's HPLC columns, and as backup for laboratory product lines (diluter/dispenser unit, syringes, pipettes, valves). Responsibilities include support and training of the Hamilton distribution network and end-users to proactively generate sales through the dissemination of product focused technical information.

Responsibilities include:
  • Technical Support - troubleshoot HPLC column and laboratory product questions that are submitted via, email, website, and phone.
  • Able to differentiate HPLC column versus instrument issues based on chromatograms and customers' analytical run conditions (i.e. sample prep problems, mobile phase preparation, pump problems, detection issues, etc.).
  • Provide troubleshooting for customer issues involving non-HPLC column products as backup or escalation for complex issues.
  • Assist in the development of application notes, datasheets, technical notes, and white papers.
  • Learn production procedures of HPLC columns and laboratory products to gain a better understanding of their operation and application.
  • Available to travel to support sales activities via training and lead generation opportunities (5 - 6 trips/year).
  • Attend selected tradeshows.
  • Create new literature under the direction of the Market Segment Manager.
  • Update and edit current catalogs and literature (maintain a list of edits and changes to be implemented prior to printing).
  • Perform day-to-day maintenance of the website content for assigned products through the CMS.
  • Update and edit current product promotions.
  • Create sales reports to track sales efforts and trends in the market.
  • Work with chromatography suppliers on supply chain issues when necessary.
  • Host online seminars to train distribution partners, end-users, and internal personnel.
  • Assist with product returns.
  • Manage product stocking issues.
  • Create and edit user manuals where necessary.
  • Manage product obsolescence.
  • Work with Market Segment Managers to monitor and maintain product pricing.
  • Propose new product ideas to the Market Segment Managers based on technical support call.

Education and Experience:
  • Must have knowledge of the chromatography field and have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with HPLC instrumentation and other laboratory equipment.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to lift approximately 30 pounds.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related science field.
  • Three years hands-on experience with chromatography equipment.
