We are seeking a highly motivated Intern to join our Department of In-vivo and Vivarium Operations (DIVO) at Cytokinetics.
 
Responsibilities
 
·    Institutional Animal Care and Use Program (IACU)
Under the direction and guidance of the IACUC Administrator:
·      d complies
·      Develop and demonstrate understanding of Institutional Laboratory Animal Care and use programs as required by The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals including but not limited to:
o   IACUC Policy and Procedures
o   IACUC Meeting administration & document management
o   Protocol review/approval and post approval compliance
·      Assist the IACUC Administrator with facilitation and execution of Post Approval Compliance Review procedures; document and present findings
 
Vivarium Operations
Under the direction and supervision of the Sr In-Vivo Specialist:
 
·      Develop and demonstrate understanding of vivarium maintenance and operation as required by The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals including but not limited to:
o   Regulations regarding physical plant and environmental management for animal facilities
o   Operation of Vivarium and cage sanitation equipment
o   Conduct Quality Assurance assessments of facility sanitation procedures; document and present findings
 
·      Develop and demonstrate understanding of the program of laboratory animal care as required by The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals including but not limited to:
o   Animal care and husbandry policy/procedure/regulations
o   Animal Health Report procedures
 
Qualifications
 
·      Currently enrolled in Community College or Vocational Program for Veterinary Assistant or RVT, Biology, Animal Husbandry, Zoology or Biotech program or recent graduate of similar AA/AS/Vocational program
·      Prior experience in animal care a plus (kennel or veterinary assisting, zoo, 4H/FFA, animal training /hobbyist)
·      Willing and able to work with live animals in a laboratory setting
·      Individual must be able to understand and follow detailed instructions and to perform tasks independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
·      Individual must be able to communicate effectively, and work well in a team environment
·      Computer skills – MS Word/Power-point/Excel
