Project Manager-Ecologist

Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. (WEST) is a dynamic medium size consulting firm with offices across the United States and Canada. WEST has a permanent core of professionals with broad experience in basic and applied ecological studies and the sophisticated analysis of natural resource data.

We are looking for a full-time Project Manager/Ecologist to support work in Texas, Oklahoma, and the surrounding region. We are open to discussing a preferred work location, including remote situations.  This region is active and provides a real opportunity for growth and innovation, and WEST will provide the support needed for success.

WEST, Inc. is a federal contractor and is required under Executive Order 14042 to mandate vaccinations for employment. Job Duties:
Our Project Managers work individually, as well as with a team of natural resource specialists, scientists, and biometricians. WEST has a diverse work portfolio that requires support on wind energy, solar energy, transmission lines, conservation planning, and research.
  • Environmental consulting
  • Renewable energy development and compliance
  • Federal/state level permitting for environmental resources (wetlands, waters, listed species)
  • Direct interaction with clients and agency representatives
  • Administration of projects
  • Prepare reports, proposals, provide quality assurance of data, and manage budgets
  • Supervision
  • Manage project teams, deliverables, and budgets for multiple projects
  • Train and mentor field biologists and early career staff
  • Foster innovation among team members
  • Promote health and safety
  • Market WEST’s capabilities
  • Develop and maintain business relationships and promote new business development opportunities
  • This position may require overnight travel

Requirements:
The successful candidate must be a self-starter who possesses:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biological studies, natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology or equivalent.
  • A master’s degree in a wildlife-related field preferred
  • Previous professional experience in environmental consulting are desired
  • Wetlands and listed-species are the target areas of technical expertise sought, but experience in avian and bat ecology, botany, or other areas of ecology potentially of interest to commercial clients will also be considered
  • Experience with statistical analysis
  • Understanding of the renewable energy market
  • Previous project management experience (preferably 5+ years),including budgeting, and proposal writing experience, consulting work, professional scientific experience, and a track record of maintaining positive relationships with coworkers, clients, agencies, and stakeholders
  • Regional ecology knowledge and knowledge of regional permitting
  • Demonstrated ability to work on general ecology field studies; eagles or ESA species experience a plus
  • Wetland delineation and Section 404/401 permitting
 
After an offer of employment is made, the candidate must successfully pass a pre- employment background check, drug screening, and a DMV records check that meets WEST’s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company. A valid driver’s license will be required.
