Graduate Summer Intern - Addressing Diversity Equity and Environmental Justice in Transportation Planning & Operations

Job Summary
The Computational Science Center has an opening for a graduate student researcher in addressing Diversity, Equity and Environmental Justice in Transportation Systems Planning and Operations. The researcher will work on transportation systems related research including socio-physical systems modeling, analysis, and optimization to address diversity, equity, inclusion and environmental justice issues in the current transportation systems

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated researcher with a strong technical background and an interest in the mission of NREL. The successful candidate will collaborate with NREL staff and researchers to identify gaps in diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice in the current transportation systems and propose solutions in addressing the identified issues.

Responsibilities include:

  • Survey the current issues in diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice in the current transportation systems including geospatial and socioeconomic data analysis.
  • Collaborate with NREL researchers to propose planning or operational solutions to address the identified issues.
  • Author, present and assist in the preparation of technical papers, reports and conference proceedings on topics related to diversity, equity, inclusion and environmental justice issues in transportation and their application.


Basic Qualifications

Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Internship period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
