Keeping Washington Clean and Evergreen


The Nuclear Waste Program (NWP) is looking to fill a Receptionist (Office Assistant 3) position. The position will be located in our Richland Field Office (RFO) in Richland, WA.

In this role, you will provide reception services to the Nuclear Waste Program. This position is part of the Technology and Operations (TechOps) Section, a unique blend of an IT Unit, building management, fleet management, records management, technical editing, and administrative business oversight services provided to staff across the program to assist them in carrying out the program’s mission. You will also provide clerical support to the Communications Unit, process incoming and outgoing mail, receive and greet visitors, and answer the phone. The position provides backup services for the Fleet Coordinator. You will interact with a variety of stakeholders including Nuclear Waste Program staff, Ecology staff, state and federal staff, and the public.

The Nuclear Waste Program's (NWP) mission is to lead the effective and efficient cleanup of the U.S. Department of Energy's Hanford Site, to ensure sound management of mixed hazardous wastes in Washington, and protect the state's air, water, and land at and adjacent to the Hanford site.

During Healthy Washington Roadmap to Recovery, employees are working a combination of in-office and/or telework based on position and business need. This position is expected to work in the office 5 days a week, Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm. Ecology is following current state guidance regarding building occupancy, mask requirements, health screening questions before entry, and social distancing.

Duties

What makes this role unique?
In this role, you will be the first to interact with the public on behalf of the Nuclear Waste Program. You will be responsible for redirecting calls from the public, assisting visitors with visitor badges and directing them to the appropriate staff or conference room. You will also be part of the Administrative Support Team led by the TechOps Section Manager’s Assistant.  
 
What you will do: 
  • Provide reception services Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Route incoming mail to program staff, and prepare outgoing mail. 
  • Provide clerical support to the communications section.
  • Respond to visitors and telephone inquiries.
  • Schedule meetings and reserve conference rooms for visitors and staff.
  • Run timesheet reports to verify that all program staff have entered their timesheets. Notify managers if there are missing timesheets.
  • Provide backup for the Fleet Coordinator.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Position requires: A high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of clerical experience.
 
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment: 
  • Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License.

 
Desired Qualifications:

  • One year of experience working in an office providing receptionist duties to multiple staff.
