Overview

Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute, is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Sr. Research Technologist within the Microbial analysis group. An individual who demonstrates exemplary organizational skills with a proven track record of working independently and on teams is ideal. The Sr. Research Technologist will primarily be responsible for assisting in the performance of multiple infectious disease research projects simultaneously in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories, including the propagation, characterization, manipulation, and detection and/or quantification of bacterial, fungal, viral, and toxin agents.
 
The Sr. Research Technologist will be responsible for maintenance of continuous cell cultures, accurate and complete study records, supply inventory, and laboratory equipment. Responsibilities also include developing paperwork, analyzing data, processing study samples for quantification of viable microbes including bacteria, fungi, and/or viruses, and performing a variety of biochemical assays (including, but not limited to, qPCR, ELISA, and microscopic analyses), all while maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific discipline and 4 years of directly-related research experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
 
Candidate must have a demonstrated understanding of research methodology, principles and procedures. Must have the ability to successfully perform a variety of laboratory procedures using standard laboratory equipment and instruments. Must have the ability to gather, analyze and report data.
 
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
 
This position may involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which may require vaccinations/immunizations. Candidates must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and wear a respirator. A Post-offer physical and background check are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.
 
Relocation may be offered for this position.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working in biocontainment and/or a GLP environment.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
