We expand basic knowledge in the biosciences, and use these fundamental advancements to develop profound innovations that improve wellbeing. Our educational and training programs mold talented and committed students and postdocs into leading edge scientists. Scientists in the institute’s five academic research departments work hand-in-hand with researchers of the Scripps Research Translational Institute and Calibr to merge foundational studies in biology, chemistry and computer science with translational science to produce pioneering drugs and advances in digital and precision medicine. Together, we cultivate new scientific leaders and expand the frontiers of knowledge to deliver medical breakthroughs to better human health around the globe. If you have a passion for making a difference, this could be your opportunity to join our transformative team.

Position Description:
The Chanda lab focuses on the unraveling the molecular bases of virus-host interactions using system-based approaches, including CRISPR/RNAi, proteomics, chemoproteomics/chemical biology, metabolomics, and transcriptional profiling. We are specifically seeking to understand a pathogen’s ability to exploit the host cellular machinery and evade mechanisms of innate immune defenses to drive viral pathogenesis. The lab studies several RNA viruses of pandemic potential, including influenza virus, coronavirus, flaviruses, and filoviruses.

A Staff Scientist position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Sumit K. Chanda in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology @ Scripps Research, located in La Jolla (San Diego), California. This position will lead a team focused on elucidating critical molecular circuits at the viral-host interface, establishing mechanistic, in vivo, and clinical understanding of the role of these interactions in disease, and identifying novel targets for the development of next generation antiviral therapies for viruses of pandemic concern.
The Staff Scientist will play an important intellectual, technical, and scientific role in developing and expanding projects in this area, and will interface with external collaborators, mentor direct reports, and lead grant-writing efforts. Position is a fully supported non-tenure track position with the responsibility of leading a team of scientists, while retaining the ability to conduct independent research. Visit the Chanda lab website to learn more: The Chanda Lab
