About the Position

For the Sr. EH&S Specialist, providing for the safety of Origin’s employees isn’t a job — it’s a calling. Because Origin is bringing a new chemical technology into the world, the proper labeling, handling, and management of materials is paramount, as is the training of Origin’s staff in techniques that minimize risk to life and the environment. The right person for this role is meticulous with details and an evangelist when it comes to the big picture — protecting people from harm.

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing all EH&S programs and processes at the West Sacramento location
  • Leading all EH&S regulatory compliance, including preparing and filing regulatory reports, maintaining permits (construction and operation), and coordinating inspections with local, state, and federal agencies
  • California CUPA
  • Coordinating hazardous waste shipments with third parties and maintaining records according to DTSC requirements
  • Ensuring sites are compliant with all CUPA requirements (e.g., hazardous waste management for LQG’s, HMBP)
  • OSHA
  • Managing the Hazard Communication Program
  • Advising on the Chemical Hygiene Plan
  • Leading and promoting worker safety (e.g. Respirator Fit tests, PPE, JHA’s)
  • Managing medical monitoring/surveillance for the workforce
  • Tracking incidents and recordables, and managing the root cause investigation process
  • Ensuring the sites are compliant with all OSHA requirements
  • Performing monthly safety equipment inspection (fume hoods, AED, etc..) and safety audits of work areas
  • Permitting
  • Maintaining current environmental operating (e.g. air) permits and exception list
  • Managing construction permits
  • Acting as the company technical expert on EH&S issues
  • Advisement to the local technical team in the areas of safety gaps, analysis of regulations and internal safety culture, presenting solution proposals to technical teams, and implementation of guidelines
  • Enhancing employee safety through education, empathy for their challenges, and the continual process of safety improvement
  • Conducting New Hire and refresher EH&S training
  • Managing/coordinating safety meetings and incident root cause analysis
  • Supporting the shipment of hazardous materials samples in accordance with IATA/DOT regulations

Your Experience:

Have to Have it:
  • Knowledgeable in California and Federal regulations (CUPA, OSHA, DOT, IATA, etc.) for handling and shipping chemicals
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in an EH&S capacity in petro/chemical industry (California preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Training Experience
  • Experience creating and implementing EH&S programs
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull at least 25 pounds
