Remote Sensing Electronics Engineering Internship at US Geological Survey - NASA Ames Research Center (PAID)

USRA is seeking electronics engineering interns for collaborative research with the USGS National Innovation Center and NASA's Ames Research Center. Interns will be mentored by USRA and USGS/NASA scientists and engineers to develop field deployable sensors and communications infrastructure.  You will be mentored by an expert team of USRA and USGS/NASA engineers as they develop and deploy advanced systems with integrated sensors to aid in ongoing projects.  A key collaborating organization is the USGS National Innovation Center which conducts research aimed at improving the USGS community’s access to emerging technologies at USGS Moffett Field, and in the field around northern California during project field-testing and associated deployments (https://www.usgs.gov/centers/national-innovation-center/science/uas)

Target projects include:
  • Application of electronic engineering to the development of integrated sensors for use with UAS.
  • Application of electronic engineering to the development of LoRa-telemetered sensors for hydrological measurements
  • Development of animal tracking tags, using satellite (GNNS) and long-range RF transmissions

Tasks:
  • Design and layout PCBs for sensors and communication infrastructure
  • Create and integrate firmware
  • Debug, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, and verify electronic systems both in the lab and field
