Mechanical Systems Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This is a hands-on position for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will be supporting the Research and Development department as part of the sustaining team focused on existing and new products as assigned. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to solve complex technical problems in a variety of disciplines with creative, practical solutions. This individual will play a key role in bringing products from concept to reality.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Work with mechanical, electrical and software engineers as a member of cross functional product development teams. Engage in all aspects of product design, configuration, integration, testing and commissioning.
  • Conceptualize and develop the next generation options for existing products.
  • Design and detail drawings in SolidWorks (PTC Creo is a plus).
  • Selection of electric motors and drives, integration of components as needed.
  • Develop, assemble, and run design experiments as needed.
  • Generate part drawings, assembly drawings, and assembly procedures.
  • Data entry into Oracle MRP system.
  • Responsible to learn, know, and adhere to department and company standards and procedures.
  • Process and create ECR's ECN's, NCP's, and procedures as required.
  • Responsible for the independent, timely, and efficient completion of assigned tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferably in Mechanical or Systems Engineering.
  • 5 plus years of experience in a systems or mechanical engineering role.
  • Mechanical skill set necessary. Electrical knowledge is a plus (e.g., cabling, component level debug, capable of reading electrical schematics).
  • Ability to program in C, C++, C# or other scripting language is a plus.
  • Systems level understanding and ability to debug automation systems and other complex technical systems.
  • Experience commissioning complex technical equipment
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written and communication skills as required to interface with other departments and company personnel in a service function.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision and direction.
  • Must possess manual dexterity to facilitate working with small parts.
  • Must possess neat and clean work habits, ability to plan and organize work and work space.
  • Position requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
