Job Description

Creates, implements and oversees marketing communications programs that effectively describe and promote the organization and its products including graphics, brochures, company or product fact sheets, logos, or other promotional products. Manages the research and development of content for publication of products. Ensures that MarCom project milestones are met and adhering to approved department budgets. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Extensive knowledge of department processes.

Reports to VP Sales and Marketing. Leads and directs the work of others and a MarCom team currently comprised of 2 direct reports and growing. Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level, working manager. Has authority for personnel actions and employee reviews. Requires ~5 years of experience in the related area as an individual contributor and 1 to 3 years supervisory experience.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Develop marketing communications strategy for increasing overall awareness, consideration, preference, and sale of company's products (including review and selection of applicable conferences, trade shows, events, and speaking opportunities for key staff).
  • Apply writing and communication skills to build awareness and create demand through trade shows, social media, news media, and the company's website.
  • Establish and maintain standards for written and visual consistency in all of company's outward facing promotional materials.
  • Oversee marketing material production for all product lines consistent with the company's established brand identity through various means (collateral, website, presentations, public relations, advertising, newsletters, signage, etc.).
  • Work with public relations firm to develop and implement external communications strategy.
  • Coordinate trade show and marketing events, including shipping and handling of exhibit booth and display materials for both domestic and international shows.
  • Manage a variety of internal and external relationships including vendor contracts (website, promotional gifts, designers, printers, public relations, etc.), industry associations, and corporate communications.
  • Participate in marketing meetings to ensure programs and initiatives are coordinated, supported, and executed in a timely manner and within budget.
  • Prepare marketing communications budget and adhere to fiscal goals.
  • Work with company practice leaders to develop marketing and communication strategies using the website, web-based social networking, contacts database, and other tools.
  • Oversee and maintain the company website and review website analytics.

Qualifications

  • The role of Marketing Communications Manager is ideal for someone with strong copywriting, social media, internet marketing, and trade show planning skills who enjoys communicating technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree with a degree in marketing, business, advertising, design, or technical writing preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Windows-based computer applications required, including MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Acrobat, Salesforce, and Hubspot.
  • Strong graphic design ability with proven creative success, using Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator is a plus
  • Experience planning and coordinating tradeshows.
  • Experience creating, maintaining and communicating annual marketing plans.
  • Experience working with web content management systems.
  • Understanding of web design & development and print production process is a plus.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced changing environment while ensuring a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong time and task management, as well as, demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Experience performing or supervising the performance of graphic design, printing, web design and development, search engine optimization, etc. is desirable.
  • Experience using social media for marketing purposes and creation and maintenance of social media drip campaigns.
  • Experience using and implementing marketing automation.
  • Experience with and use of CRMs (D365, SalesForce, Hubspot preferred) for MarCom purposes.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science field preferred. Other degrees include Marketing, Communication, Business or related field. A minor or emphasis in writing (journalism, creative writing, etc.) is a major plus.
  • Should have at least 3 years of sales, marketing, or related product management experience, either in a technical capacity such as research and development or applications.
  • 3 plus years of marketing experience is strongly recommended.
  • Previous management experience is preferred.
  • Experience with capital scientific equipment is highly desired.
