Research Technician I - Egeblad Lab

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, located on Long Island, New York, is seeking candidates for an immediate opening for a Research Technician in the Egeblad Lab (http://egebladlab.labsites.cshl.edu/). The Egeblad lab studies the role of the microenvironment in cancer metastasis and therapy resistance using mouse models and intravital imaging.

The lab technician will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and the main responsibility will be to manage the lab’s large animal colony, including managing breedings, tracking all animals, genotyping, measuring tumor growth, and assigning animals to specific investigators within the lab.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for ensuring that the lab is well stocked with supplies/ reagents, coordinating purchasing of supplies/reagents with the Purchasing Department, and coordinating equipment maintenance with the Facilities Department.

Additional responsibilities may include participation in research projects by assisting investigators with e.g., cell culture experiments; staining of tissue sections; performing assays for protein, RNA or DNA; and dissociation of mouse tissues and tumors. 

Position RequirementsEducation: BS/BA in biology, biomedicine, biochemistry, or related life science discipline is required.

Skills and experience: Experience in any of the following techniques would be advantageous: working with mice (including handling, colony maintenance, and record keeping), basic molecular biology techniques, cell culture work, western blotting, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy. The candidate should be willing to commit 2 years to this position, and possess excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills, be willing and able to work independently, and have a strong sense of integrity.
