AST Software Engineer Co-Op- Summer 2022- CIPHER

GTRI’s Cooperative Education (“co-op”) program offers you extensive opportunities to participate in diverse scientific and technological endeavors, use state-of-the-art equipment and rapidly improve your technical and leadership skills. The program allows you to alternate three semesters of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school.
The CIPHER (Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation) Laboratory is a leader in developing the technologies that secure, defend, and respond to threats within our country’s information, distribution, and network systems at GTRI. CIPHER provides high-impact solutions to some of today’s most challenging cybersecurity problems for both government and industry, while also developing far-reaching high-risk high-payoff cyber technologies to respond to future threats. Research areas include cyber threats and countermeasures, secure multi-level information sharing, resilient command and control network architectures, reverse engineering, information operations and exploitation, quantum computing and sensing, and data analytics.
The CIPHER-IT Application Support Team (AST) is looking for a Co-Op student starting in the Summer 2022 semester (May 2022 start date).  This student will work with a team to develop, implement and support the CIPHER IT hosted web applications and databases used by over 350 researchers in the CIPHER Laboratory.  A Co-Op student will work 3 alternating full-time rotation semesters, will attend school in between those full-time work semesters.
Students will perform one or more of the following job activities, which will provide a solid foundation for the student to pursue careers as a Software Engineer, Web Developer or Computer Scientist:
  • Software and systems integration and testing
  • Quality assurance and process improvement
  • Test automation and scripting
  • Technical writing and documentation
  • Presenting ideas and deliverables to key stakeholders
  • Other duties as assigned


REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Co-op
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems or related field.
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Experience with at least one of the following: Node.JS, React, JavaScript, Java, PHP, Python
  • Experience with at least one of the following: MongoDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL
  • Experience with a configuration management system (e.g. GIT)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in a co-op program and register for co-op credit with your university during work terms
  • Must be able to complete at least three full-time co-op terms (alternating three terms of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school) prior to graduation


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in 1 or more programming languages
  • Strong interest in learning the CI/CD pipeline
  • Experience with API integration
  • Familiarity with UI/UX design
  • Task/team leadership experience
