Senior Materials Engineer, Battery R&D

We are seeking a hands-on individual to join a small project team within the internal Form Futures group, which develops early-stage ideas and explores novel chemistries to enable decarbonization of our electric grid. This Senior Materials Engineer will join a small team developing an electrochemical system that may be Form’s next product. The ideal candidate will dive into hands-on lab work, both following established protocols and developing new ones. This lab work may include building cells and cell components, figuring out better ways to make and assemble our electrodes, and performing end-of-life characterization. This candidate is safety-conscious and works with attention to details, to documentation, and to learning. We use Python and JMP for analysis; the ideal candidate will be comfortable using or learning some engineering coding language.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and execute experiments to answer specific questions
  • Design, execute, and maintain both standard and non-standard electrochemical testing
  • Improve and optimize electrode fabrication methods for research and development
  • Characterize cells in order to build mechanistic understanding of the system
  • Work with mechanical engineers to design new test fixtures
  • Work towards clear milestones

What You’ll bring:

  • BS required in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics or similar field
  • 5+ years experience working on battery testing or electrochemical cycling
  • Experience with statistical analysis using tools such as JMP
  • Excellent communication skills within a group of peers and the broader organization
  • Basic laboratory safety knowledge and wet chemical handling experience
  • Experience organizing and managing electrochemical test infrastructure
  • Experience developing or optimizing electrode fabrication
