Performs assignments that require professional judgment and knowledge of purchase orders, service contracts and other miscellaneous duties as necessary to support internal stakeholders. Responsible for conducting tactical procurement activities (bid, evaluate, and prepare procurement documents) for the acquisition of goods or services in accordance with Calpine’s procurement policies, standard practices, sound business and ethical practices. 

Provides assistance in analyzing vendor costs and industry market trends, lead times, performs market analysis and identifies, selects and qualifies suppliers for the supply of spare parts and consumable goods. Assists with vendor strategic alliance teams to identify and implement process improvements to gain better pricing and service from suppliers. 

• Senior-level; recognized technical expertise in own and possibly related functions. 
• Performs a variety of complex technical service/support duties requiring specialized knowledge. 
• Reviews specifications, conducts tactical procurement activity (bid, evaluate, negotiate, and prepare procurement documents) for the acquisition of goods or services in accordance with Calpine’s procurement policies, standard practices, sound business, and ethical practices.
• Thorough knowledge of Corporate ERP System by processing procurement purchase order & contract management, running and writing queries.
• Assesses current supply base on an on-going basis and recommends changes/alternatives that could reduce purchased material cost or add higher value
• Develops and maintains sustainable relationships and partnerships with Project Engineering, Business Development, vendors, and other internal and external stakeholders.

• Independently prioritizes and executes responsibilities effectively for a single trade, group of related tasks or functional area. 
• Checks own work and possibly the work of others; work results are of the highest quality standards and advanced technical competency.

• Resolves the most complex technical issues, conferring with Team Leader occasionally; may serve as resource to others in resolution of complex issues.
• Understands and follows procurement policy and purchasing procedure
• Embraces Calpine’s Supplier Diversity Initiatives and assists Director, Purchasing with daily Supplier Diversity activities.

• Works under limited supervision. 
• Prioritizes own weekly schedule and may guide others in the completion of tasks within clearly defined schedules as set by management.
• Regularly provides on-the-job skills training to others in complex technical areas.

• Self-motivated, demonstrates problem solving abilities, continuous improvement and decision making skills

Job Requirements:
• BS/BA Business Administration, Purchasing, Accounting, Economics, Finance, or Engineering or equivalent job experience.
• Senior-level; Requires 10+ years directly related to purchasing.
• 3-5 years experience directly related to Supplier Diversity Program and initiatives 
• Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM from ISM), Certificate in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM from APICS), Senior Professional in Supply Management (SPSM from NLPA), Certified Professional in Supplier Diversity, (CPSD from ISM), or any other related certifications
