Job Summary
The CO2 Capture Process Engineer oversees and manages the development, design, commissioning, testing, and optimization of CO2 capture gas processing plants for natural gas fired combined cycle power plant applications. The position requires the ability to evaluate a novel solvent adsorption gas separation process from the pilot plant size to full commercial scale CO2 capture plant. The position requires an in-depth understanding of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics and heavily involves the application of mass transport phenomena knowledge in chemical engineering.
This role will primarily be responsible for oversite and technical approval of all project-related basic process engineering deliverables from CO2 capture technology providers for a specific project including block flow and process flow diagrams (PFD), mass & energy balances, P&ID, utility flow diagram and requirements, major equipment specifications and sizing, and general plant layout. This person will act as in the project engineering position during studies, actual construction, testing and commissioning of the CO2 capture plant.
Responsibilities
• Prepares Scope of Work (SOW), Basis of Design, etc. documents including design standards, site conditions, available utilities, emission and waste streams limitations, and overall performance requirements for the CO2 capture system;
• Oversees, evaluates, and manages the designs of CO2 capture processing plants, monitors modifications and upgrades, and troubleshoots existing process designs;
• Applies the principles of mass, momentum and heat transfer to process and equipment design, including conceptual, scheme and detail design;
• Prepares reports, and conceptual PFDs and P&IDs;
• Performs process hazard and operability analysis (HAZOP), and assesses the safety and environmental impact of the plant;
• Performs technical economic analysis (TEA) and evaluates the capital and operational cost of projects during the pre-construction phase.

• Works closely with process technology suppliers to develop operating manuals, training programs, and procedures.
• Ensures all aspects of a design meet specified regulations;
• Provides guidance to plant engineering, operations, and maintenance staff at the installed power plants;
• Carries out other related tasks and projects as required to support the project from the conceptual design through commercial operation (COD);
• Provides operating guidance for process unit after COD.
• Other duties as assigned in support of power plant projects and operations.
