Madison, WI / Materials and Structural Analysis Division - Spectroscopy

How will you make an impact?
You will join a team that develops software products that enable our customers to use spectroscopic instruments and information to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. As part of an agile scrum team you will contribute to development projects and advance best design practices to help create a world-class user experience for our customers around the globe and help support our digital science vision.

What will you do?
  • Learn about software engineering and instrumentation through daily activities and mentoring/coaching of engineers and software managers
  • Work on specific tasks tailored to your experience level and abilities, and collaborate with your team to plan and complete features to build software that delights our customers
  • Be involved with many aspects of software quality assurance and software design and analysis tasks
  • Use your passion for continuous improvements to increase the quality of our software and improve our development processes
  • Use your desire for personal growth to continuously learn and participate in developmental opportunities

How will you get here?

Education
Undergraduate and graduate students in Computer Science or related technical disciplines who will have completed at least their Junior year in an ABET accredited degree program prior to starting the internship

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of least one computer language such as Java, C# and C++, and basic object-oriented design and architecture
  • Ability to work in a software team that is part of a multi-disciplinary development effort
  • Strong willingness to learn, be mentored and improve
  • Desire to write clean and maintainable code
  • Interest in science and ability to learn basic scientific principles
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
