Security Operations Center Intern

Summary of Internship
This position functions as part of a team of analysts in the Frederick-based Security Operations Center for Thermo Fisher Scientific. Analysts monitor and investigate anomalous network activity and alerts, participate in advanced threat hunting, and triage/mitigate threats.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitoring and analysis of alerts and anomalous network activity
  • Process incident tickets
  • Initial triage of events/incidents
  • Implement appropriate mitigations
  • Provide occasional on-call support

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Student currently enrolled in classes leading to an accredited Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Preferred majors: Information Systems, Information Security, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science or other related major
  • Strong desire and motivation to develop a career in IT
  • Strong leadership and team building skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team
  • Ability to learn, be mentored, and improve
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is required in performing all functions of this position.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
  • Must have excellent time management skills
  • Must possess excellent organization skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Clear command of the English language
  • Understanding of Networking (TCP/IP, OSI Model, Wireless, Routing and Switching)
  • Understanding of Cyber Security concepts and best practice
  • Basic Knowledge of OS’s (Windows, MAC, Linux variants)
  • Basic understanding of attack vectors
  • To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status
