Energy Efficiency Engineer - Foodservice

We are currently seeking a full-time Energy Efficiency Engineer - Foodservice to join our Energy Efficiency Team. The person selected to fill this position shall have expertise in building science, energy-efficient technologies, energy savings methodology analysis energy modeling, and energy codes. Knowledge of foodservice equipment is especially sought after, together with knowledge of HVAC systems, water heating, grid harmonization technologies, demand response, and distributed generation. Knowledge of the California and national foodservice equipment market, ENERGY STAR product specifications, ASTM test procedures, and emerging technologies studies is a plus.
As a member of the Energy Solutions team you will have a broad impact on energy efficiency incentive programs, state and national energy codes, and energy efficiency markets through our work for major North American utilities, city and state governments, and other national leaders in energy efficiency. This unique opportunity, paired with Energy Solutions’ mission driven approach, creates a perfect environment for individuals who want to have an active voice in shaping the nation’s energy future.
 
 Daily responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Lead the development of new measures for foodservice energy efficiency programs
  • Analysis of emerging and established foodservice equipment technologies, their market prevalence, and operational efficiency in practice  
  • Calculate energy savings and clearly document assumptions and methodology 
  • Analyze the cost effectiveness of energy efficiency measures using utility-approved cost effectiveness calculators and tools
  • Write reports on technical topics, such as measure reports for technical resource manuals (TRMs), workpapers, Title 24 CASE reports, and market characterization studies 
  • Perform energy modeling using EnergyPlus and similar software and apply statistical methods to results
  • Support development of energy efficiency program forecasts for proposals and business development efforts
  • Coordination with energy efficiency project managers, utility clients, and oversight of subcontractors
  • Manage engineering support staff on energy savings and new measure development projects
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, environmental, architectural, or related field)
  • 2-8 years of engineering or work experience in related area
  • Familiarity and work experience with foodservice equipment manufacturers, equipment testing, sales, commercial cooking, and/or the commercial foodservice industry
  • Knowledge of Title 20, Title 24, ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, and other energy codes
  • Knowledge of ENERGY STAR product specifications and ASTM test procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports, technical papers, and provide technical presentations to knowledgeable audiences
  • Expertise in energy modeling, knowledge of EnergyPlus, and experience with large-scale simulations, and data analysis
  • Highly detail oriented, strong analytical and verbal communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Willingness to conduct occasional business travel
  • Applicants should be able to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and two weeks must have passed since the final dose before you will be able to work from our office
