Associate Scientist, Bioreactor Process Design

Just is seeking a motivated and hardworking team member who desires a significant opportunity to improve worldwide access to biotherapeutics.  This person will join a fast-paced, collaborative, and multidisciplinary team to support bioreactor process development (perfusion and intensified fed-batch) at the bench and pilot (1-50L) scale for the advancement of low-cost biotherapeutics manufacturing.  The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and efficient in completing laboratory tasks.  Experience with equipment cleaning and maintenance, ordering and managing inventory, and organizing workspace and tasks are preferred.  Strong written and verbal communication skills, and experience with common software packages (such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc) are desired.  The ideal candidate is curious, creative, engaged, works well independently and in teams, and constantly looks for ways to improve processes and technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, run, and clean bioreactors and bioreactor equipment (controllers, pumps, etc) including building and autoclaving bioreactor parts and assemblies
  • Work with vendors and manufacturers – ordering, troubleshooting, and developing prototypes
  • Weekend sampling and maintenance when scheduled (5 day work week/ 2 days off)
  • Help prepare media and buffers
  • Maintain labs – clean, restock, identify/address workspace issues
  • Design, execution, and analysis of statistically designed experiments (DOE)

Preferred qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering, Biochemistry or related field and 0-2 years experience
  • Highly organized, particularly in complex, scientific laboratory settings
  • Motivated and eager to learn
  • Focused on goals and results
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with Microsoft Office apps (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Pluses:

  • Experience cleaning and maintaining scientific equipment
  • Experience preparing cell culture media and buffers
  • Experience recording and analyzing data as well as writing technical reports
  • Experience with bioreactor cell culture and perfusion technology
  • Experience with design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis 
  • Experience with JMP, R, Tableau, SoftMax Pro, Guava, Visual Basic, and WebEx
  • Experience with high throughput cell culture (e.g. deep-well plate assays or robotics)
  • Experience implementing / programming PLCs (any manufacturer)
  • Experience or familiarity with writing code (Python preferred)
  • General understanding of circuits (grounding, power, signal, etc.)
