Postdoctoral Fellow - Psychology

Postdoctoral Position, Department of Psychology, University of Rhode Island (URI)

Position is full-time calendar year, limited to 01-30-2023 with anticipated renewal.

University of Rhode Island announces the availability of a Research Focused Postdoctoral Fellowship in health sciences research. Gain training in NIH-funded research with experienced faculty.  Training available in grant-writing, manuscript preparation, implementation science, treatment development and data analysis. Mentorship to become an independent investigator with skills for collaborative, multidisciplinary research. Participate in NIH proposal development and execution. This is a productive addictions research lab with continuous federal funding for over 20 years. Collaborate in dynamic research environments and with fabulous community partners (e.g., corrections, school, community health settings). Opportunities for clinical work and teaching.  Areas of focus: Under-served settings and diverse populations, health behaviors (especially substance use), treatment outcomes, implementation science and systems-change, assessment development, use of technology and more. Most recent funding is under JCOIN, which is part of the NIH HEAL initiative. This is an exciting multi-site study with academic partners from around the country (Yale, Temple, Brown, Indiana and George Mason Universities, to name a few). Excellent opportunity for networking, growth and more. See ad on the URI website: https://jobs.uri.edu/postings/8834 for job posting #SF01158.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct ongoing NIH and SAMHSA funded projects studying implementation of evidence-based practices in high need, under-served settings (e.g., correctional, community mental health) targeting risky sexual behaviors, substance use, crime, mental health symptoms, wellness.
- Writing reports for funders, agency partners with support from research staff.
- Oversee research staff activities.
- Interact with other URI Departments as appropriate, State agencies, local health centers and universities on multidisciplinary teams.
- Engage in scholarly activities with opportunities including:
o   Leading/ assisting with publications
o   Training in and assisting with grant writing
o   Data analysis and teaching
o   Mentoring and supervising graduate students in different research related activities.
o   Developing own active research program under mentorship
o   Interacting with national investigators
  Conference travel
 
Required Qualifications:
1.  Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD/PsyD) from an APA accredited program or PhD in
     behavioral sciences or related field at time of appointment.
2. Background in behavioral clinical interventions.
3. Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills.
4. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
5. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
