Bioinformatics Intern (Masters/PhD)

Summary:

We are seeking a creative and motivated bioinformatics scientist to join the bioinformatics team at Thermo Fisher Scientific to participate in the development of new products and evaluation of new technologies with a focus on Pharmacogenomics and Precision Medicine applications using high-density DNA oligonucleotide microarrays.

The position is paid, 40 hours/week, starting in May or June and running through July or August.

Responsibilities
  • To test and optimize new microarray genotyping algorithms
  • To automate, support and contribute to the development of novel analysis methods and other R&D activities
  • Microarray data analysis and development of QC test methods for our pharmacogenomics array
  • Help in developing tools and analysis pipelines advancing the state of art sample, reagent and array quality-control checks, through application of statistical modeling and/or machine learning techniques on microarray signal intensities.
  • The project will involve both statistical and related data analysis programming tasks.
  • The intern will support bioinformatics analysis of datasets from internal R&D labs as well as customers.
  • Develop code for data analysis for internal use.
Required Experience
  • Currently enrolled in M.S. or Ph.D. program
  • Must be pursuing a degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience with statistics and statistical programming (e.g. R or MatLab, or SAS)
  • Experience with the UNIX/Linux environment
Desired Experience (not required, but any of these is a big plus)
  • Experience in bioinformatics and microarray analysis
  • Experience with scripting and/or programming (Perl, Python, C++, Java, etc.)
