Bioinformatics Intern - R&D

Summary of Internship


The Bioinformatics Internship position provides an opportunity for students who are currently pursuing a computer science, bioinformatics or similar degree to get hands on experience working with bioinformatics scientists in a fast-paced research and development environment. The intern will participate in the development and improvement of algorithms for genetic copy number analysis for Precision Medicine and Reproductive Health applications using high-density DNA oligonucleotide microarrays. The project will involve data analysis, algorithm development, and programming. Key internal R&D and customer datasets will be used for validation.

Specific tasks will be tailored to the intern’s level of expertise. The intern will work under close supervision of other scientists and will be provided regular feedback to foster continuous learning and improvement. Exploration of new ideas will be strongly encouraged.

The position starts in May or June, paid working 40 hours per week through August.

Qualifications

Student currently enrolled in B.S. or M.S program in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics or related field.
Required Experience and Skills
  • Strong aptitude for data analysis
  • Knowledge of statistics
  • Experience with statistical programming (preferably R)
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to learn on the job and contribute to project success
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills

Desired Experience

  • UNIX/Linux
  • Bioinformatics and microarray data analysis
  • Scripting and/or programming languages (e.g. Python, Java)
