Cell Culture Development Summer Intern

How will you make an impact?
As part of the Cell Culture Development team, you will work with the upstream process development team to develop a process for cross referencing documents during difference stages in the development process. This will enable right first time execution for important life-saving, and life changing potential new medications.

By establishing this system it will help to prevent transcription errors that result in execution errors in the lab that result in rework. This may have an opportunity save $150,000 to $500,000 per year.
Your activities will be support Process Development and GMP production bioreactor stages for activities in Saint Louis. MO, Princeton, NJ, Brisbane, Australia and Groningen, Netherlands.

What will you do?
  • Train on Thermo Fisher Scientific practices in process development and general onboarding
  • Deep dive into the different technology transfer processes that are executed during a development process.
  • Recommend a standard process for future products
  • Work with other departments on site (such as downstream and quality) to gain knowledge and feedback on proposed process.
  • Draft a new work instruction for proposed process.
  • Work with a technical liaison in a mentor/mentee team approach.
  • Present your project to site leadership at the end of your internship.

How will you get here?
This role will work directly with a pre-selected senior mentor within Thermo Fisher Scientific. This individual will act as liaison, mentor, guide, and coach through all aspects of training, project research, and the final report and template drafting.
Onsite (no remote work) 40+ hours a week is a requirement for this position.
Education
  • Undergraduate in chemical, biochemical Eng, Biology and Biomedical Sciences, or molecular biology sciences or similar.
  • Undergraduate in a similar department or major
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Entry level or mid-level courses or experience in statistics is a plus.
Experience
  • No industry experience is needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Enthusiasm and go-getter approach to problem solving.
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams to deliver against challenging objectives
  • Ability to contribute to a team effort and to learn from a liason and technical advisor.
  • Basic/Moderate Process Control mathematics and statistical evaluation.
  • Excellent writing skills to present a technical summary report to drive global baseline studies.
  • Excellent self-management skills to make/meet project timelines and milestones for long term goals.
