Algorithm/Software Development Intern – R&D
The Algorithm Development Internship position provides an opportunity for science or engineering students who would like to get hands on experience working with engineers in a fast-paced R&D environment. The intern will contribute to a research and development project having the goal of reducing the labor required to create optimized multiplexed qPCR assays. The position starts in June, paid working 40 hours per week through August. Opportunity exists for this position to continue through the academic year on a part-time basis to allow for class schedules.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and curate experimental data for statistical analysis
- Analyze data for specific patterns
- Implement algorithmic ideas to extract and use those patterns
- Evaluate the performance of software implementations
- Develop software components supporting multiplexed qPCR assay development
- Create presentations describing the work
Skills and Abilities
- An interest in numerical techniques and signal processing or software evaluation or software development
- Proficiency with a software language: enough to create tools to manipulate and display data and implement numerical algorithms or develop software or test software
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team
- Willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve
Qualifications
- Completion of a master’s degree or higher in the sciences or engineering
- Successful completion of at least one course in biochemistry
- Proficiency with Python or Matlab
