Senior Student Associate, Digital Collection Services Intern, Dolph Briscoe Center for American History

ASAP. Fall 2021 & Spring 2022. 19 hours per week. Schedule to be arranged with supervisor, Monday through Friday, 8:00-5:00.
DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Digitization Specialist, the digital collections services intern will digitize collection materials (flat and bound materials, photographs) from the Briscoe Center collections to established standards using imaging capture equipment. The intern will process the images with appropriate software (Photoshop and Capture One), enter description into database using technical and descriptive metadata. Intern will work individually with minimal supervision. Intern will work in public services at the Briscoe Center's reference desk 2 hours per week. Performance will be evaluated based on productivity, quality, and reliability.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· University of Texas student status and enrolled in at least six semester credit hours
· Excellent organizational skills
· Regular and punctual attendance
· Strong oral and written communication skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Ability to work in a collaborative environment
· Ability to work as part of a team and independently
· Ability to work under supervision
· Ability to lift up to 50-pound boxes during a three- to four-hour period of time
· High school graduation or GED and two years full-time equivalent library experience; or 60 hours college credit and one year full-time equivalent library experience; or twelve hours of graduate coursework in library and information science

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor's degree in the social sciences or humanities
· Knowledge of research methodologies and techniques
· Familiarity with handling fragile library, archival, and museum materials
· Experience with working with digital camera or other digitization equipment and software
· Graduate coursework in history, library science, and/or archives
· Knowledge of preservation materials, practices, and theories
· Experience with preservation methods
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Molds, dust, and other air-borne allergens may be present.

SALARY:
$13.00 per hour. This is a temporary student position and does not carry benefits.
