Program Information

The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is pleased to announce the return of our Internship Program of the Fall of 2021. Philadelphia OEM has run this program for more than a decade with a focus on providing a hands-on learning opportunity for the development of future Emergency Managers. We accomplish this by providing participants with the real life experience of working and managing projects, developing plans, and responding to incidents under the mentorship of OEM staff.

OEM's internship program is UNPAID. We follow the US Department of Labor’s standards for unpaid internships by providing participants with educational opportunities through experiential learning. We do not guarantee employment at the end of the opportunity. This is an educational opportunity only. Because this is an unpaid internship we are highly flexible with schedule and hours. Mentor's set minimum hours per week based on project needs, but typically we ask interns to engage in activities approximately 16 hours per week. Completion of hours may take place both on-site and remotely based on the mentors and operational needs and/or the COVID environment and restrictions in-place.

We are looking for current and former students that may be interested in this opportunity. Upon acceptance to the program, participants will be matched with a mentor based on interests and needs. Our timeline for the programs is:

  • Apply & Interview: Now thru 9/24
  • Decisions: 9/28
  • Onboarding: 10/18
  • Program Final Presentations: 12/16
