Spanish Communications Intern

The Spanish Communications Intern reports and collaborates directly with the Communications Director. The Spanish Media Intern will work with the communications staff to implement the Senator’s communication plan. Responsibilities for this role include drafting Spanish language talking points, communicating with Spanish language press, and assisting in other communications strategies. This internship requires a commitment of 15 hours a week and runs through the end of the Fall semester. Internship can be completed for class credit. The position is located in the Texas Capitol and allows for a hybrid remote/in-person schedule if needed. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
 
  • Draft Spanish language talking points;
  • Translate materials as needed;
  • Assist in the organization of media events;
  • Respond to media requests;
  • Remain abreast of current legislative and non-legislative issues about which the Senator may be questioned;
  • Evaluate current events and media reports in the district and the state for their impact on the Senator; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Understanding of print, broadcast, and online media;
  • Thoroughness and careful attention to detail; and
  • Expert fluency in Spanish is required.
