Within the Data Collection Bureau and our Chemistry Laboratory, you'll have the opportunity to assist with data entry and routine laboratory maintenance tasks. We are seeking a student with great organizational and detail-oriented skills to assist our Lab staff in a team-oriented office environment. In joining our team, you’ll play an important role in enhancing the results to ensure a brighter future for the environment of Florida.

Compensation: $13.99 hourly


Essential Functions

  • Accurate data entry into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Management of physical inventory of samples through life cycle: from field sample receipt within the LIMS to proper sample disposal.
  • Cleaning of work stations and laboratory benches and routine laboratory maintenance and household tasks: glassware washing & work station preparation for analysis
  • Daily monitoring and recording of all laboratory equipment temperatures
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and flexibility to anticipate and meet Laboratory team needs
  • Ability to understand and follow technical instructions and confidence to ask questions when clarification is needed

Working Conditions

The position requires the ability to perform continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding) with one or both hands. Frequently lifts and carries 10 pound objects, with an occasional requirement to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to occasionally squat. Must be able to operate a District vehicle for two hours or more at a time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Work environments vary by assigned business unit..

Required Credentials for Chemistry Laboratory Student Intern Opportunity

  • High School diploma or equivalent 
  • Be at least part-time and currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or other recognized educational or vocational program
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students or minimum GPA of 3.0 for graduate students

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Credentials for Chemistry Laboratory Student Intern Opportunity

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with basic laboratory safety
  • Experience with laboratory ethics and data integrity
  • Preferred Degrees: Chemistry, Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering or related major
  • Preferred Degree Level: Undergraduate or Graduate
