Entry Level Civil Engineer (Transportation)

Entry-Level Civil Engineering (Transportation)
 
The Roadways Group at GBA is looking for an entry-level Civil Engineer to assist on transportation projects with our Municipal, DOT, and Traffic groups. This position will work with a multi-disciplined team on both roadway and traffic engineering design, supporting working in our Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa offices. The position can be located in our Lenexa, KS headquarters office or our Chesterfield, MO office.
 
Municipal/Highway Design Responsibilities:

  • Geometric Design and 3-D Modeling, including intersection and interchange design
  • Evaluation and design of multi-modal (automobile, pedestrian, bicycle, transit, freight) facilities and corridors, from the planning stage to final design and bidding documents
  • Roadside Safety Evaluation and Design
  • Basic Hydrology & Hydraulic design, including cross-road structures and enclosed storm sewers
  • Development of Construction Sequencing, Traffic Control Plans, Erosion Control Plans for Construction
  • Quantity development and tabulation, Cost Estimation, Standard Specification review and development, Quality Control/Quality Assurance Reviews
  • Field Visits
  • Utility Coordination
 
Traffic Engineering Responsibilities:                                                                                                

  • Preparation of Traffic Impact Study (TIS) and Design Study documents including Level of Service Evaluation, Crash Data Analysis and Traffic Volume/Growth Generation
  • Warrant studies to establish needs for traffic control devices
  • Traffic simulation modeling to produce detailed traffic operations data and graphics
  • Layout and design of traffic signal, roadway lighting, traffic control, ITS, signing and pavement marking
 
Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Obtained or pursuing EI / EIT certificate
  • 0 - 2 years of experience, Internship experience is a plus
  • Experience in using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Possess effective communication skills both written and oral
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Experience using the following software is a plus: Synchro / SimTraffic, VISSIM, RSAP, HSM, AutoTurn, HY-8, HEC-RAS, Revu or Adobe
