Intern – Civil / Structural Engineering (Bridge)
The Bridge group at GBA is looking for a summer intern to join our team for the summer in our Round Rock, TX office. Summer interns will work alongside engineers to apply structural engineering concepts learned from school while experiencing both design and inspection aspects of being a Bridge Engineer. At GBA, interns learn what it’s really like to be an engineer in a fast-paced, ever changing environment with assistance from peers, subject matter experts and senior staff.
Our Bridge Group is a team-driven collective who focus on both bridge design and inspection work. We pride ourselves in the cohesive environment we have created for engineers specializing in both aspects of the industry. GBA provides a complete solution for bridge projects including design, bridge management and preservation, comprehensive inspections, load-ratings, prioritization, and GIS mapping for our clients. We have successfully completed a wide range of projects for DOTs, municipalities, and private clients across the country.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with bridge inspections which would include field work and travel
- Assist with developing technical inspection reports
- Perform structural load rating and design calculations
- Apply structural engineering concepts to a wide range of bridge design and inspection projects
- Assist with geometric layout and quantity development for bridge design projects
- Develop structural details using specialized software such as Microstation, AutoCAD or other Structural Design programs
Requirements:
- Pursuing BS or MS in Civil Engineering
- CAD experience is a plus
- Coursework in either steel or concrete
- Available for field work and/or overnight travel
- Possess effective communication skills both written and oral
- Willingness to work in a team environment
- Previous internship experience is a plus
