Provide communication support to the Center for Health Communication for cancer prevention initiatives in Houston area communities. The position will assist the Senior Project Coordinator in providing social media metrics analysis and creating public health content across four key areas of cancer risk reduction: diet, exercise, UV radiation, and tobacco cessation.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Monitor an established listing of community partner social media accounts across various platforms.
  • Facilitate collaboration between community partners and help them promote each other’s content by curating a weekly list of relevant social media posts they can consider sharing. Guidelines on relevancy and a directory of approved accounts will be provided for sourcing recommendations.
  • Serve as a social media metrics analyst, collecting and analyzing follower growth and post engagement data on a monthly basis. Reporting templates and workflow recommendations will be provided.
  • Assist with briefing clients and community partners on social media best practices.
  • Contribute content and strategy ideas based on current social media trends.
  • Meet with supervisor up to once weekly for updates and feedback. In-person meetings are not required. Regardless of applicant’s ability to meet on campus, these will primarily occur by Zoom or phone during the Fall 2021 semester.
  • If equipped with the necessary design skills, assist the Graphic Designer with drafts and edits as needed.
  • If equipped with the necessary copywriting skills, assist the Copywriter with drafts and edits as needed.
  • Autonomously manage recurring weekly and monthly deadlines, notifying supervisor of any availability conflicts in advance.
  • Maintain a record of work and archive of all files, both on file sharing sites and backups offline.
  • Plan and coordinate your schedule of 5 total hours of work each week, working with supervisor to request any necessary adjustments.
  • All other relevant duties as assigned. 
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Classified as a Sophomore or Junior working towards a Bachelor’s degree
  • Detail-oriented
  • Aptitude with various social media platforms as well as the data-tracking tools associated with them
  • Ability to analyze social media data, including identifying trends and discovering key insights
  • Ability to work independently and meet recurring weekly deadlines
  • Effective communicator with supervisor and other team members 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the following: Adobe Creative Suite, Excel, Box, and OneDrive
  • Copywriting and/or graphic design skills
  • Prior experience with health-related communication
  • Interest in continuing with the position in Spring 2022
 
Working Conditions:
  • Primarily remote work during the Fall 2021 semester
  • Work may be done from a self-provided location of your choice.

About the Team
This position supports The Center for Health Communication (CHC), a joint academic center of both the Moody College of Communication and Dell Medical School. The center employees an interdisciplinary group of scholars and practitioners, who lead the creation of evidence-based health communication research, education, and practice.
