CCSI Intern
NYC3’s Urban Technology Division seeks motivated interns to support our cybersecurity mission during the fall 2021 term. You will have an opportunity to understand and work on one of the most pressing cybersecurity issues: protection of critical infrastructure.
Under the supervision of the CCSI Liaison Officer, you will support the Cyber Critical Services and Infrastructure (CCSI) Initiative, through interagency coordination, strategic analysis, and programmatic support. This initiative is the first of its kind, so we are looking for executors and leaders. CCSI’s mission is to serve as a hub for operational collaboration prior to and during a significant cybersecurity incident that has the potential to adversely impact the security, economic health, financial stability, or public health and welfare of New York City and its residents.
Activities of the CCSI Intern will include, but are not limited to:
- Support coordination of CCSI activities, such as meetings and working groups
- Preparing briefs, agendas, and memos at the direction of the Liaison Officer
- Tracking and monitoring of incidents and developments relevant to critical infrastructure
- Conducting original research and analysis of critical infrastructure cybersecurity
- Interfacing with external entities as part of building public-private partnerships.
In the cover letter, please describe your understanding of critical infrastructure and cybersecurity, specifically, in a state or local context. Use this opportunity to demonstrate that you have done your research about NYC3 and CCSI. Additionally, provide at least one example of how you supported or managed a multi-stakeholder initiative. The total length should not exceed 500 words.
NYC Cyber Command aims to train you in an active operational environment so you can directly support our mission, gain unique experience, and hopefully join NYC3 as a qualified full time employee.
About You
You are mission-focused and dedicated to public service. You are driven, detail-oriented, and diligent: you know how to produce a policy memo, structure a multi-stakeholder agenda, and operate with discretion.
Eligibility requirements:
- Must be full-time student at accredited school
- Reside in the five boroughs
Academic experience:
- Majors or concentrations in political science/government, homeland/national security, international relations/security, disaster recovery/crisis management, policy/intelligence analysis, or law/legal affairs
- Policy analysis and operational support of complex, multidisciplinary issues
- Coursework in critical infrastructure and cybersecurity
Preferred Skills:
- Fundamental understanding cyber threats facing critical infrastructure
- Familiarity with 16 National Critical Infrastructure sectors and 55 National Critical Functions
- Analysis of strategic, systemic, and complex issues
- Demonstrable support of executive decision making
- Basic knowledge of operational technology (OT) and industrial control systems (ICS)
