Texas Global - Communications Graduate Student Assistant

Department: Communications is the creative and marketing team for Texas Global, showcasing the depth and breadth of the university’s global engagement activities across campus and abroad, supporting the mission of the university and enhancing its reputation around the world through strategic messaging and brand positioning
About the position: Graduate student with experience in graphic design and information system management. Ideal candidate is creative, organized, and detail-oriented. This role will be responsible for file organization and establishing a Digital Asset Management System for the Texas Global image library. This position will provide graphic design and production support to Sr. Graphic Designer and Communications team. Experience translating design concepts across a variety of digital and print mediums while maintaining a consistent style within an established brand is critical for this position.

Required: Must be available to work 20 hours/week during Fall 2021/Spring 2022.

Overview of Duties:
  • Develop and design original ideas for print and digital materials including Infographics, flyers, guidebooks, social media, web banners, etc.

  • Assist Sr. Graphic Designer in every stage of the design process, from initial concepting to final production, using Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Proofread and edit marketing materials to improve layout and maintain visual style and branding consistency.

  • Edit, resize, and retouch photos for use in print and on the web.

  • Establish and maintain the Texas Global Digital Asset Management system, incorporating current photo library into a new university-wide system (Image Relay).

  • Edit, tag, update metadata, rename, organize, and archive photos for Texas Global shared folders and Digital Asset Management system.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of naming conventions and folder organization plans for shared file organization system (UTBox).

  • Create schedules and deadlines for information system management projects and collaborate across the communications team to meet goals.

  • Collaborate with other campus communications teams on best practices for creative file management.

Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in graphic design, advertising, information systems, or a related field and at least two years of experience in graphic design and file management. Demonstrated proficiency in current version of Adobe Create Suite. Experience designing within brand standards. Demonstrated understanding of production design and delivery process. Excellent organization and time management, written and oral communication, and problem-solving skills. Detail-oriented and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
 
Preferred Skills:
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Create Suite. Experience working with a Digital Asset Management System. Experience proofreading and editing for visual style consistency. Experience working in a marketing/design/creative services department. Experience designing email marketing campaigns. Experience traveling, studying or working abroad. Experience working with international populations. Advanced proficiency in a foreign language.
