STARTING PAY RATE: $40.24 - $49.30 per hour based on a 40-hour work week. Salary dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is $40.24 - $58.36  
 
WORK SCHEDULE:  This position will typically be working the 2nd shift hours of 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

JOB SUMMARY:
This position schedules and directs routine and emergency operations for night shift Customer Service Division, including maintenance and repairs of various village infrastructure assets, and is responsible for the banner program, reported trip hazards and cost-share sidewalk program, rapid response program, pickup and disposal of dead animals found on village, county, and state roadways, collection and disposal of refuse generated through Adopt-A-Highway program, delivery and collection of barricades for block parties, mulch delivery, graffiti removal, emergency repairs as necessary, water service shut off and turn on, and the administration of the village’s custodial contract. Assists in the Snow and Ice Control program. Responds to emergency conditions. Develops short-term and long-term work schedules, and is responsible for the implementation of the Division’s budget and work projections.
 
To succeed in this role the ideal candidate will need to effectively and clearly communicate to a full range of people, inside and outside the organization, and be capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects with thoroughness and accuracy. We are looking to add a team member capable of delegating and prioritizing multiple tasks and responsibilities. 

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Associates Degree or equivalent credit hours towards a Bachelor’s Degree with major course work in business management, engineering, or closely related field.
  2. A minimum of five years of experience in a Public Works Department with a thorough knowledge of skilled maintenance and construction work.
  3. A minimum of two years of supervisory experience preferred coordinating a range of activities undertaken by others that involve directing, monitoring, and evaluating performance of staff in a lead capacity.
  4. Possession of a valid State of Illinois Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within six months from date of hire.
  5. Proficiency with current computer software systems, including email, calendar programs, job-specific software, and customer service systems preferred or within the first six months of employment.
 
Broad and in-depth knowledge of all Engineering & Public Works Department operations. Thorough knowledge of Regulatory Agency rules and regulations. Ability to exercise good judgment and make proper decisions to assure the proper operation of systems. Ability to establish good working relationships. Knowledge and experience in the use of the equipment of the division to train subordinates in the safe use of the equipment. Ability to effectively supervise and work with others and to train all assigned personnel through demonstration and/or effective communication, written or oral. Ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures to the general public as well as to supervisors and staff. Ability to maintain clear and accurate records of all Division operations and prepare clear and concise technical reports. Ability to manage, maintain, update and renew all fleet-related diagnostic materials in computerized form, web-based or book-based.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Subject to high levels of noise for an extended period of time.
  2. Subject to extremes of temperature for prolonged periods or abrupt changes in temperature.
  3. Subject to fumes or disagreeable odors.
  4. Subject to exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  5. Subject to extended periods of isolation.
  6. Subject to working in wet, dirty, dusty, hot humid, and/or cold conditions in high vehicle traffic areas.
  7. Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions; ability to lift and move 75 pounds or more on a frequent basis.
  8. Frequent and/or prolonged bending, stooping, standing, pulling, pushing, or reaching.
  9. Prolonged periods of concentration such as proofreading, figure work, drawing, reading blueprints, etc.
  10. Frequent contact with the public; must be able to effectively communicate verbally and demonstrate good customer relations.
  11. Frequently completes written technical forms; must be able to effectively communicate in writing.
  12. Occasionally works at heights to 130 feet above or depths of 50 feet below the ground.
  13. Subject to frequently changing walking surfaces.
  14. Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of others, including private contractors hired by the Village.
  15. Subject to working for extended periods of time: 12 hours occasionally and 18 hours infrequently for several consecutive days.
