Senior Capital Equipment Procurement Associate

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 
The Sr. Capital Equipment Procurement Associate is responsible for all aspects of Wind Energy, Solar Energy and Energy Storage utility-scale projects major equipment (Wind Turbines, PV Modules, Inverters, Batteries, Racking system) purchase process including market research, supplier analysis, selection strategy, final negotiation, and eventual contract hand-off to construction personnel to confirm all deliverables have been satisfied. Primary goal is to secure a competitive advantage for the company through strategic wind and solar equipment procurement. The role will require a significant amount of interaction with key stakeholders throughout the company including executive level leadership.
 
Main accountabilities:

  • Implement and lead competitive bid processes for major equipment for utility-scale renewable projects
  • Negotiate contractual terms with short-listed vendors for turbine and solar supply and services contracts
  • Gather input from the Construction, Engineering, and Operations teams to assist with negotiation and execution of equipment supply, installation, warranty, and maintenance
  • Assist Procurement management with the development of contracting strategies and processes that result in best value for the Company
  • Manage relationships with vendors including but not limited to identifying new market entrants, supplier qualification, technical proposal review, and commercial and contractual negotiations
  • Manage request for proposals and evaluate pricing proposals and term sheets for equipment supply
  • Secure competitive bids for the supply, transportation, and installation of major equipment
  • Assist with contract award review, analysis, and presentation of recommendation to executive level leadership
  • Collaborate closely with various departments, including Energy Assessment, Estimations, Project Engineering, Operations, Investment Analysis, Legal and Development for estimation, due diligence, and evaluations required
  • Establish best-in-class project modelling tools including cost estimation and financial models with the end goal of identifying the most competitive technology and equipment for EDPR’s renewable projects
  • Manage the technical due diligence process among different vendors
  • Benchmark and model various technology based on multiple performance attributes
  • Track the global and U.S. wind and solar markets and monitor technological advances in the industry
  • Lead and issue regular internal memos on vendor pricing estimates and variability to ensure alignment amongst development teams.
  • Assess the manufacturing capability of suppliers and subcomponent manufacturers
  • Participate in the engineering, design, and construction review process
  • Schedule and prepare agendas for meetings between suppliers and other relevant team members

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 4 - 6 years of progressively responsible technical, engineering, construction management, or heavy industry procurement experience
  • Experience in the wind or solar industry preferred
  • Proven skills in procurement, negotiation, basic accounting, and contract analysis
  • Proficient knowledge of full suite of Microsoft Office software; high proficiency in Excel required
  • Competency in Analytical Problem Solving, Strong Communication, Customer/Partner Relationships, and Technology Expertise. (Preferred).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work productively with limited supervision
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to multi-task
  • Strong interest in environmental issues and renewable energy
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work extended hours as needed
